Hereford Football Club have today appealed for supporter donations of spare warm clothing or sleeping bags, so they can assist the local charity ‘Open Door’ as they attempt to distribute these to local homeless people around Herefordshire this Winter.

Directors and staff from Hereford FC will also be opening a soup kitchen in Radford’s Bar on Christmas Day evening, feeding those who are in need this festive period.

The Bulls’ Hospitality Manager, James Smith, says “as a community club we realise that we have to try and offer help to as wide and varied cross section of the community as we can. By working with local charity ‘Open Door’, we have approached the local homeless community with an offer of a warm meal and shelter on Christmas Day evening, but we’d also like to be able to hand out some warm clothing to those who need as well.

“If anyone has any old jumpers, coats, hats, scarves or gloves lying around that they’d like to donate then they can drop them off at the main Club Reception throughout December. Any unused clothing will be donated to local charities.”

Hereford Open Door is a local, independent charity. They provide food and company to those whose find themselves homeless, living in temporary or sub-standard accommodation, or on their own. Everyone who approaches them is treated with the same respect, compassion and support. They say ‘there is no test to pass’. They cater for all ages and walks of life.

Hereford Open Door was started in 1996 to provide some comfort at Christmas for homeless and needy people. The project proved a huge success and also demonstrated a real need for a year round initiative, so they quickly opened the drop-in centre every week throughout the year.
