The Bulls new signing is part of a tight knit, proud and Christian-loving family. Keenan has two brothers and a sister. Their mother Michelle is English and father Ghanian. The family name Quansah has its roots in Akan ethnic group, particularly in Ghana. He’s also eligible to play for Barbados, and even Scotland too!
Born in Trafford and now living in Chester, Keenan has a long-term partner. Hereford obviously are pretty sexy these days which helps, yet even so, we’re a geographical commitment for him. The furthest he’s travelled to play football.
Is Caddis making full use of the additional spending power that he’s been afforded? Or perhaps the player is just weary of losing to the Bulls and thinking “if you can’t beat ‘em, join em.” Our new arrival is a solid National League performer with over 100 appearances to his name.
As his mother explained to local media in the North-West: “He was at Liverpool Academy, then Crewe and Bolton on trial before getting a contract at Macclesfield Town at under 14s. Sadly the Macc Town Academy then broke apart after they were relegated from League Two.” Accrington Academy was his next port of call as a youngster.
The defender learned his trade with Accrington despite having to travel up to two hours each way. Since then, he’s tried Mossley, Hyde, Glossop, Runcorn, Widnes and Stalybridge before rocking up at Southport in July 2022. Three years there is a staggeringly loyal spell when you’re at Haig Avenue. Keenan impressed with his reliability and consistency and turned down a new contract there this summer.
Younger brother Jarell of course is a Liverpool footballer with 30 appearances in the Premier League, but way before that grandfather Samuel was a full Ghana International and also played for Stalybridge Celtic as a striker.
It’s far from clear what Keenan does for a day job. He has an impressive list of real world skills such as yoga instructing. Collectively, these attributes shriek ‘personal trainer’ though that’s just my supposition.
Now 28 years old, Keenan is primarily a centre back, albeit comfortable at right back and in defensive midfield. Last season, he played in 39 NLN games out of a possible 46. That screams reliability to me. He toiled through Hereford’s 4-1 win at Southport, but sat on the bench in the return fixture.
Mind you, he played the full 90 minutes against Kiddy in Southport’s surprise victory. Good man!
A local media man in the North-West told Talking Bull, “Not many defenders as consistently solid as Keenan, as he wins almost 70% of his duels with an opposing player.”
Welcome to Edgar Street Keenan – Go smash it!
