The new managerial pairing of Aaron Downes and Harry Pell saw a newly re-invigorated team survive the dreaded drop zone last season, and have now built an ultra competitive, skilful, and attacking squad. A great start to the new campaign has seen the energetic side pick up three wins on the spin, and an early slot in the ‘Top Six’ of the Enterprise National League North.
The new issue of Talking Bull is once again packed with content within its full colour 48 pages, and is right up to date as we reflect on both the recent changes and events off-the-field.
Firstly we introduce Harrison Iwunze to Edgar Street as we assess the instant impact of ‘Our Man From County’ after his exploits with goals against Marine, Radcliffe and Worksop.
Indeed, editor Tom Gough, also puts the spotlight on ‘Cool Hand Luke’ who has impressed already in midfield, with Spokes notching the Bulls second goal at Worksop. Tom also wonders whether the ex Southend striker Danny Waldron can become the focal point of the attack, whilst we await the introduction of the ‘Flying’ Fin Holmes racing up the Hereford left flank.
The arrival of Kam Kandola from Kidderminster has sharpened expectations and, up until his ridiculous red card against Radcliffe, the Punjabi Bull has impressed everyone, especially all of us here at Talking Bull HQ. We study the background to new signing Joe Willis, with many anticipating his selection as it will provide Aaron Downes with extra ‘bite’ in midfield. Billy Phillips has started the campaign in technically sharp fashion with the goal against Radcliffe, as depicted on the front cover, as a particular highlight. We also take a look at ‘one of our own’ Jordan Williamson whilst Simon Wright insists we can ‘Put Our Trust’ in Harry Tustin.
There are a number of clubs who will be competing in the NLN for the first time this season and so, courtesy of Bullscast, we provide an insight into each club plus the all important ground guides to Spalding United, Harborough Town, Hednesford, Morecambe and Hebburn.
Anthony Eckersely brings us the ‘Musings of an Exiled Fan’ as he visits both Edgar Street and Old Trafford. You can find out which atmosphere he preferred; the no music for 15 minute policy at Manchester, or the raw passion of the flag-flying Bulls Battalion at the Meadow End.
In a special ‘100 Years Ago’ feature we reveal the history of Hereford United in the 1920’s. We’ve even obtained a team photograph ahead of the very first home match against Atherstone Town in 1924, and guess what? United played in white shirts, white shorts and black socks! Who knew.
Our centre-spread features the stunning away win last week at Worksop whilst, from the Ron Parrott Archive, we look back at a ‘Dream Fulfilled’ as Hereford were elected to the Football League in place of Barrow.
‘One Horse, Two Games and a Pair of Koalas’ reminds us of the fun, excitement and sheer nervousness surrounding the last away game of the season at Bedford. Ox Bull wonders whether there will ever be a Hereford based team. Chris Jones looks back 50 years, to his first match at Edgar Street, when Hereford beat Hull City thanks to a goal from Dixie McNeil in August 1976.
James Edwards went in ‘Search of a Win’ at Marine last season and was so delighted at the Bulls’ victory that he splashed out on a cheese pie! Happy Days. We look back at the 2026 World Cup Carnival, discuss FIFA 2.0, the Squad Builder and the 3pm Black-Out rule.
