The Hereford boss Russell Slade could not contain his exasperation at the performance of referee Michael Barlow as his side fell to a narrow 3-2 defeat at Southport.

Hereford debutant Stephen Dawson had a goal chalked off for a handball in the build up to his accurate 35 yard strike – a decision which was exceptionally controversial.

Reece Styche scored one penalty, and then saw a second spot kick saved.

An ill tempered match also came close to being abandoned after an object was thrown at the Hereford goalkeeper Brandon Hall by a Southport fan in the first half.
